Another week, another fiercely contested encounter in Div. 2. This one, finding Celts victorious by 3 in a nine-a-side struggle.
Once again this week from the outset, the team attacked in numbers and by being unselfish with the ball, we were able to get the jump on our opposition. Of concern was the fact that still the same emphasis wasn’t being placed on our 'D' and Souths were able to close the gap and make a contest of it.
Discipline was also of concern, and we were lucky not to have squad members placed on report this week. It's easy to get caught up in the heat of the moment, but a Celts team is not one that argues refereeing decisions, and fight amongst ourselves. Something to address in coming weeks.
The effort required to get the win this week was impressive, and the running done by our midfielders Gerry Lenihan and Kieran Canning was outstanding. Ray Christie and Brian Gelthins were always a threat to our opposition, and took their opportunities well.
Greg Bryant and Brenden Riddell made life difficult for our opposition forwards all afternoon.
Special mention this week to, James Anderson and Liam McGrogan, who both made solid debuts for the club and certainly held their own out there. Looking forward to watching their progress in the next few matches.

Hi and welcome, to this, the first edition of 'bee's corner' discussing the fortunes, trials and tribulation of Celts' 2nd Division Reserve Grade side of 2009. Today, the side faced nursed hangovers, oppressive heat and a well prepared opposition side in Shamrocks. Never ones to shy away from battle, Celts fought tirelessly, to a man, and emerged victorious in a classy, yet gutsy fashion. The side attacked with commitment and endeavour. Our strength today was the manner in which the ball carrier was always given options by his team mates. This rookie coach took great pleasure in the fact that no one player appeared to be bigger than his team. More of the same please, lads...
With the club's senior's enjoying the week off, today's reserves side was boosted with the inclusion of both the Senior's Coach and Captain, with Karl McEvoy and Owen Stephens in the side. Both provided invaluable leadership, and engineered the win.
Midfielder Gerry Lenny, worked fantastically with the industrious half forward line of Ray Christie and Brian Gethins to provide the Celts with the possession that led to many of our scoring opportunities. These opportunities proved invaluable to the full forwards in the form of ageless D. Hirst who was supported by a cameo from Brian Harney.
Defensively, the side coped well with Stevo keeping Dave 'Heartlidge' Barry on his feet long enough to see full time. The side was well served by the terrier-like performances of Kyle Hirst and Tom Devers. Kyle continues to improve and impress with each game he plays in, and is enjoying a new lease of life in the half back line. Tom showed tremendous character to return for the second half, after picking up a knock in the first half.
May we also see a speedy return to fitness for Goalkeeper Brendon Riddell whose keeping and defensive organizational skills were sorely missed, when he succumbed to injury mid way through the first half.
