Congratulations girls on getting through to Easts first championship final! As you can imagine, quite proud right now!
From the first ball up, Easts quickly took possession, with Claire Peters and Aileen directing play with ease.
The first half showed that Easts were strong in all areas of the pitch, Aileen taking the first score of the game, which was quickly followed by Claire Dolan and Karen Bowe firing the ball into the back of the net and securing a strong lead.
Harps fought back and gained some possession, but the Easts back line kept the goals protected and Harps only managed with some points to keep them in the game.
Orlagh Mchugh was solid in the back and managed to power through Harps forward line with ease, clearing the ball out of the scoring zone continuously through the game.
The forward line worked with each other, showing familiarity and Marie, Karen and Claire Dolan were always positioning themselves providing strong leads.
Harps took some more quick scores, but as a response Easts matched the points scored.
There was a dip in the second half where Easts allowed two goals against, putting the pressure on as the minutes of the game slipped away. On cue, Aileen showed no mercy and ran the ball from midfield, with one thing in mind; securing a strong lead by popping the ball over the goalies head which she successfully did, getting Easts closer to the Championship once more. A definite captain move there :)
As the final whistle blew, Easts should be very proud of the effort, showing they are a team more than deserving of their place in the final.

After a night of birthday celebrations, the girls were eager to get on the pitch.
A fresh looking Shamrocks took the first couple of points, putting the pressure on from the start.
The team needed to dig deep as the game being reduced in time meant they had no time to get back on top if they fell behind. The back line again worked hard and managed to keep Shamrocks out of the goal scoring zone, leaving them only to score a few points.
Natalie Connor worked the ball consistently up the wing, delivering some beautiful balls to the forwards. Claire Peters always found space on the pitch and made my job easy by placing the ball on my chest every time .(thanks!)
Rachel Lynch was hard to catch making some impressive leads.
Although there were a lot of unfortunate spills of the ball, giving play back to Shamrocks for a large part of the game, all in all the team managed to pull together and get scores on the board and come through with another win.
Wendy Layther linked with all the forwards very well, opening up a lot of options for support play.
A big welcome back to Claire Dolan and congratulations to both the men's teams on their wins.
Happy Birthday Elizabeth and Michelle!

After a long football drought, the season for East Celts Ladies finally got underway on Saturday, 7th May, 2011.The sun was shining as the girls took to the field, unsure if all the pre-season training had prepared them enough for what was going to be a tough match against Harps who knocked them out of the finals last year. With ease Karen Bowe took the first score of the match driving the ball into the back of the net with only a few swift moves, setting the tone for what was going to be a successful first round. A quick point followed to reassure Harps that Easts were back with a vengeance.
Midfielders Aileen and Claire Peters took control of play from the first second, feeding the ball to the forwards with precision. The ball was fed to players in a variety of combinations leaving the other team unaware of what the East’s girls were going to do next! Roisin McEvoy without fail broke through play setting up many conversions with the help alongside from Karen Bowe whose speed left harps in her tracks.
The backs consistently broke down the ball, forming a solid wall that harps only scraped a few points past. Easts full back line showed great determination, with Julie Walker on top of their every move. Elizabeth McElgunn and Amanda Layther always managed to find the loose ball and gain possession back for Easts.
A few yellow cards were handed out between both teams but all in all it was a clean competitive game.
With new players adding strength to the team, Easts are definitely showing they're not a team to take lightly anymore.
