SEASON IN REVIEW
Chris Guice Senior Coach East Celt's Sunday, 22nd August 2004
2004 saw us East's Celt's gather at Bulimba for pre-season training in March with our hopes, aspirations and eagerness for a successful season. There was a buzz in the air, a great committee, new players teaming together with old and a sense of something special. It was realized early by all what we put in is what we get out! We also realized the higher our goals, the harder we needed to work to achieve them, lessons in life really.
That has not changed from the first match till now the finish of the fixture season. We have had our fair share of highs and lows, we have stuck together like glue and developed our friendship, team ethic's and much respect for each other as the journey has continued. It has seen us finish the fixture season on top and positioned well for the finals. This has been achieved due to the commitment, dedication and plain old fashioned hard work of all players throughout the year. In any team sport the ultimate goal is to win a championship, we have now put ourselves in a position which gives us the best possible opportunity to win the championship, nothing else! The moment the fixture season ends, it's a new ball game. Finals are won by the teams that perform best in them and is not based on past performances. The intensity lifts our expectations along with other aspects. Make no mistake, we have the players capable of making it into the Grand Final and taking out the championship but so do other teams! Who wants it the most will come through. The next 3 weeks will be the most exciting of all with the ultimate reward at the end for the team that does the work and puts their bodies on the line. Nowhere to hide, players who took short cuts will be "found out", some players who may be struggling will lift and have a major influence in finals. I have always strongly believed a players true worth is judged by the way he performs in the finals and under the pressure of them! We are prepared, we are committed, we will do our best at the end of the day. Lets all enjoy, savor and be proud of our performance, no matter what's in store! You are all men of good character and courage, lets together make this season something to cherish for the rest of our lives! No one is going to take that away from us! Lets just do it! Chris Guice |
